Reacquisition of citizenship

The person who previously held the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova but for certain reasons renounced the citizenship, can apply for the reacquisition of the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova.
To regain citizenship, the applicant will present:
  • autobiography in Romanian, indicating the period of residence in the Republic of Moldova and residence abroad, data on marital status, place of residence, work activity, data on close relatives: parents, husband (wife), children, reason for loss of citizenship ;
  • the certificate regarding the renunciation of the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova or the copy of the decision regarding the withdrawal of the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova. The person whose citizenship of the Republic of Moldova was revoked in accordance with art. 23 letter c) he can no longer regain it, in other cases stipulated in the same article he can regain citizenship only under the conditions of naturalization and only after 5 years of legal and habitual residence on the territory of the Republic of Moldova from the moment of citizenship withdrawal.
  • valid identity document (passport, ID) in possession;
  • the certificate issued by the competent US vital record authority regarding the applicant's family members (certificate from the residence about the composition of the family);
  • the document confirming the address of residence on the territory of the USA - for persons who do not reside in the Republic of Moldova;
  • four recent photos, 2x2 inches, color, matte, on a white background;
  • US criminal record certificate (the certificate is to cover the territory of the entire country. Certificates issued locally are NOT accepted);
  • criminal record from the applicant's country of residence. (persons residing on the territory of another state present the respective document from the country of residence, the certificate should cover the territory of the entire country. Certificates issued locally are NOT accepted);
  • the criminal record certificate is not necessary for persons under the age of 14
  • confirmation of payment of consular fees.

All the documents mentioned above are mandatory and must be presented in original. All documents issued by the US authorities must be legalized with an Apostille applied to the documents, correctly translated into Romanian and legalized with an Apostille.
