Travel document

Service duration: 10 minute
Scheduling this service is mandatory for files submitted in person. The corresponding file can also be sent by post. Documents can be submitted in person from Monday to Thursday from 9 AM to 12 AM. Applications submitted in person will only be during business hours and on days when the Embassy provides consular support to citizens with appointments.

  • Files submitted in person by 12 AM are issued the same day.

 

The embassy issues emergency travel documents (ETD) to the following categories of people:

  • Stateless persons with a valid permanent or temporary right of residence in the Republic of Moldova;
  • Foreign citizens with a valid permanent or temporary right of residence in the Republic of Moldova;

Emergency travel document can be issued if the applicant presents the set of documents corresponding to his case and proves the lack of a valid travel document. Proof of the lack of a valid travel document is considered:

  • expired passport;
  • damaged passport;
  • passport containing incorrect data or outdated information;
  • the passport has been lost or stolen.

Emergency travel document can also be issued at the written request of the authorities of the Republic of Moldova, the authorities of the USA or Mexico, international and non-governmental organizations, in the following cases:

  • returning to the Republic of Moldova from a medical institution;
  • returning to the Republic of Moldova from a penitentiary institution;
  • returning to the Republic of Moldova in connection with an extradition request;
  • returning to the Republic of Moldova in connection with an expulsion decision;
  • returning to the Republic of Moldova of minors without parental supervision;;
  • returning to the Republic of Moldova of victims of human trafficking or migrants in difficulty;
  • returning to the Republic of Moldova in connection with the difficult situation in which the emergency travel document applicant is;
  • returning to the Republic of Moldova based on a request for readmission. 

In the case of requests sent by post (adults), the ETD file will contain the following original documents:

✔ The corresponding application (download the application here).
✔ Expired or damaged passport, in original;
✔ 2 (two) recent color photos, 2 x 2 inches, passport type, on white background, photographic paper;
✔ Copia permisului de conducere SUA și/sau permisului de ședere SUA;
✔ The notarial deed, drawn up at an American notary regarding the certification of the person's identity. The notarial deed must also contain a photograph of the applicant affixed on it.; (download the application here );
✔ Declaration of loss or theft of the passport, (if the passport was lost or stolen, a copy of the passport or Moldovan identity card must be presented (download the application here));
✔ Confirmation of payment of consular fees;
✔ Prepaid USPS Priority Mail / Express Priority Mail envelope with tracking number and applicant's return address.
✔ In the case of applications sent by post (minor children), the ETD file will include the following original documents:
✔ The appropriate application completed on behalf of the minor and signed by one or both parents (download the application here).
✔ The child's expired or damaged passport, in original;
✔ The valid passport of the parent/parents with whom you will travel to the Republic of Moldova (in original);
✔ Moldovan birth certificate of the child;
✔ Parents' Moldovan marriage certificate;
✔ 2 (two) recent color photos, 2 x 2 inches, passport type, on white background, photographic paper;
✔ Copy of the child's US driver's license and/or US resident permit (if applicable);
✔ The notarial deed, drawn up at an American notary regarding the certification of the child's identity. The notarial deed must also contain a photo of the child pasted on the notarial deed (download model here);
✔ The declaration in free form authenticated by an American notary, by which one or both parents request the issuance of the travel document in the name of the child;
✔ Declaration of loss or theft of the child's passport (if the passport was lost or stolen, a copy of the passport or identity card must be presented (download the application here));
✔ Prepaid USPS Priority Mail / Express Priority Mail envelope with tracking number and applicant's return address.
 

Note: In the case of children born in the USA who do not have a Moldovan birth certificate or a Moldovan passport, an ETD can only be issued if the US certificate has been legalized with an apostille, (the apostille is applied to the US Secretary of State of the State where the certificate was issued accordingly) and a notarized statement from one or both parents is presented indicating that the parents know about the impossibility of leaving the territory of the Republic of Moldova and the impossibility of documenting the child with a birth certificate and a Moldovan passport in the absence of presenting the set of documents for each separate service regarding the birth certificate and Moldovan passport. ✔ 2 (two) recent color photos, 2 x 2 inches, passport type, on white background, photographic paper;
✔ Declaration of loss or theft of the passport, (if the passport was lost or stolen, a copy of the passport or Moldovan identity card must be presented (download the application here));
✔ Confirmation of payment of consular fees;

For applications submitted in person (minor children), the EDT file will include the following original documents:

✔ The appropriate application completed on behalf of the minor and signed by one or both parents (download the application here).
✔ The child's expired or damaged passport, in original;
✔ Pașaportul valabil al părintelui/părinților cu care se va călători spre Republica Moldova (în original);
✔ The valid passport of the parent/parents with whom you will travel to the Republic of Moldova (in original);
✔ 2 (two) recent color photos, 2 x 2 inches, passport type, on white background, photographic paper;
✔ Declaration of loss or theft of the child's passport (if the passport was lost or stolen, a copy of the passport or identity card must be presented (download the application here));

 

Note: In the case of children born in the USA who do not have a Moldovan birth certificate or a Moldovan passport, an ETD can only be issued if the US certificate has been legalized with an apostille, (the apostille is applied to the US Secretary of State of the State where the certificate was issued accordingly) and statement the statement, that will be written at the Embassy, from one or both parents which will indicate that, parents know about the impossibility of leaving the territory of the Republic of Moldova and the impossibility of documenting the child with a birth certificate and a Moldovan passport in the absence of presenting the set of documents for each separate service regarding the birth certificate and Moldovan passport.

  • Emergency travel document is valid for 30 days.
  • The validity period can NOT be extended.
  • ETD is valid only for one trip (including through transit countries - without leaving the transit zone) and only for returning to the Republic of Moldova.
  • It is not possible to use ETD to travel to the US.
  • The rules of the Schengen/EU member countries allow the stopover to be made only through one member state of this area. Airport transit of a second Schengen/EU member state requires obtaining the transit visa for the corresponding country. For details or to check transit visa application procedures, contact the diplomatic mission of the country you will be transiting through.
  • If ETD is requested for the minor child, the presence of only one parent with the child at the Embassy is sufficient.

If necessary, other documents may be requested to establish the identity of the applicants.
