Moldovan associations and national-cultural organizations

The map shows the presence of the Moldovan Diaspora in the USA, according to the latest available information from the 2019 American Census Survey. Provided data estimates a number of over 46 thousand persons, which only account for people born in Moldova and legally staying in the USA, with the biggest Diaspora agglomerations in California (over 8 th. people), New York (over 5 th. people), Washington (over 4 th. people), Florida (over 4 th. people), Illinois (over 3 th. people), North Carolina (over 3 th. people), etc. The Moldovan Diaspora self-estimates its number at around 100 th. people. 

According to the BRD database, there are 10 Diaspora organizations in the USA:

  • Moldovan-American Convention (MAC), the communication platform of the Moldovan Diaspora
  • Community of Moldovans in Chicago (CMC), led by Mariana Berbecaru
  • Promovam Moldova @ New York, led by Evghenia Berzan
  • Oregon Trail
  • Quiz Women USA
  • Romanians of DC, a community organization, led by Bogdan Banu
  • The Moldova Project, a humanitarian project
  • Touching a life INC., a humanitarian project
  • "Hand in Hand Project", a humanitarian initiative
  • Moldova AID, a humanitarian project, led by Elena Drăgălin

Other active organizations include Comunitatea Moldovenilor din California (CMC), led by Ruslan Vdovicenco; Diaspora Moldovenilor of Silicon Valley, led by Oleg Ciubotaru, (CTO) of the FFW Agency (works with CMC); The Moldovan community in Raleigh, North Carolina, contact person Dumitru Sinigur/Eleonora Sinigur, assistant of the North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall; the TRUCKIȘTII association of Washington, led by Nicolae Bairactari (mainly active in the humanitarian area through Moldovan partners); Comunitatea Moldovenilor din Arizona, led by Mariana Lozovanu; "Casa Mare" of Sacramento, CA, led by Mariana Mikesell, etc.

At the same time, some of them, as the Association of Moldovans in Chicago, led by Lilian Gaibu and the Casa Mare Association in Washington DC, led by Cristina Batog, the Community of Moldovans in Tampa Bay, Florida, led by Oleg Bînzar, were a candidate for election parliamentary 2019, Grigore Vieru Foundation, from New York, led by Florin Cârlan, Moldova Foundation for Democracy and Development also from New York, led by Tudor Spătaru, are less visible. Although on Facebook, there are more than 40 groups of Moldovan communities from various regions, some of them are passive or even inactive.

It should be also mentioned, that the Moldovan Diaspora benefits from the existence of a news portal, Moldova Times, editor-in-chief Natalia Ghilașcu, who is also the initiator of Hora in America magazine (20 editions), a joint Moldovan-Romanian project, launched in September 2018, with success stories of our conationals, useful information and advice, etc. There is also a TV station, announced as the first television in the USA of the Romanian community everywhere, launched on December 1, 2017, in Texas, entitled ARCA TV.
