Travel title

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Emergency travel document is issued to the following categories of persons:

  • citizens of the Republic of Moldova who are abroad and are not in possession of a valid travel document to return to the Republic of Moldova;
  • citizens of the Republic of Moldova who are abroad and are not in possession of a valid travel document to return to the Republic of Moldova;
  • foreign citizens with permanent or temporary residence in the Republic of Moldova who, for objective reasons, cannot obtain a travel document from diplomatic missions or consulates of the state of which they are citizens, and I am not in possession of a travel document valid for the return to the Republic of Moldova.

 

VALIDITY OF THE EMERGENCY TRAVEL DOCUMENT

ETD is issued for a period of 30 days from the date of issuance of the document. It is valid only for return to the Republic of Moldova. It cannot be issued on temporary basis in other countries.

SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS FOR THE ISSUANCE OF ETD'S

Applications for ETD's can be submitted in person at the Embassy, without any appointments, from Monday to Thursday, between 10.00-13.00 (EST), or may be sent by mail.

NECESSARY PAPERS

A. APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED IN PERSON (FOR ADULTS)

  • Application form (downloaded here);
  • 2 (two) color photos 2 x 2 inch, on white background, passport type, on photographic paper;
  • original expired or deteriorated passport (if it is not available any other document issued by Moldovan authorities with photo (identity card, driving license, military certificate) or Moldovan birth certificate, should be submitted;
  • Consular fee - paid through money order, payable to "Embassy of Moldova". Consular fee can be checked here: https://sua.mfa.gov.md/en/content/consular-fees-and-additional-fees;
  • If the passport is lost, stolen or damaged, an additional statement (available here) will be filled and submitted as well an additional 1 USD will be added on consular fee which will be charged;

 

B. APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED IN PERSON (MINORS)

  • Application form (downloaded here)- filled with the child's data, signed by one of the parent;
  • 2 (two) color photos 2 x 2 inch, on white background, passport type, on photographic paper;
  • original expired or deteriorated passport;
  • Moldovan child's birth certificate (if there is no Moldovan birth certificate as the minor was born abroad, the child's birth certificate issued by foreign authorities legalized with apostille should be submitted);
  • If the passport is lost, stolen or damaged, an additional statement (available here) will be filled and submitted as well an additional 1 USD will be charged;
  • passport/Moldovan ID of the parent who is submitting the application;
  • Consular fee - Free.

 

C. APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED BY MAIL (ADULTS)

  • Application form (downloaded here);
  • 2 (two) color photos 2 x 2 inch, on white background, passport type, on photographic paper;
  • original expired or deteriorated passport (if it is not available any other document issued by Moldovan authorities with photo (identity card, driving license, military certificate) or Moldovan birth certificate, should be submitted;

  • A notary act, issued by an American notary, which will confirm the identity of the applicant. Mandatory: Notary act will have an affixed photo on it. A template can be downloaded here;
  • A prepaid self-addressed envelope (USPS Priority Mail, Express Priority Mail, with a tracking number); (No FEDEX envelopes will be accepted).

 

D. APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED BY MAIL (MINORS)

  • Application form (downloaded here) - filled with the child's data, signed by one of the parent;
  • 2 (two) color photos 2 x 2 inch, on white background, passport type, on photographic paper;
  • original expired or deteriorated passport;
  • Moldovan child's birth certificate (if there is no Moldovan birth certificate as the minor was born abroad, the child's birth certificate issued by foreign authorities legalized with apostille should be submitted);
  • If the passport is lost, stolen or damaged, an additional statement (available here) will be filled and submitted as well an additional 1 USD will be charged;
  • passport/Moldovan ID of the parent who is submitting the application;
  • A notary act, issued by an American notary, which will confirm the identity of the applicant. Mandatory: Notary act will have an affixed photo on it. A template can be downloaded here;
  • notary authenticated consent, issued at an American notary, whereby one parent requests the issuance of the travel document on behalf of the minor child;
  • A prepaid self-addressed envelope (USPS Priority Mail, Express Priority Mail, with a tracking number); (No FEDEX envelopes will be accepted).
  • Consular fee - Free.

Applications submitted in person - on the same day;
Applications sent by mail: 5 business days;

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The rules of the Schengen zone allow only one stopover/layover to be made in a single Member State. Transiting of the second airport located in Schengen zone country requires a transit visa. Contact the diplomatic missions of all the states you are about to transit to check on the procedure for applying for a transit visa.
